Renowned Chinese writer Wang Anyi was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, the highest order of merit in France.
Wang received the award from Bertrand Lortholary, French ambassador to China, for his outstanding contributions to literature and cultural exchanges between China and France.
“Literary exchange has become one of the most appreciated traditions, which foster understanding and mutual connection between both countries,” commented the writer.

As a devoted admirer of French literature, Wang has dedicated much of her time to promoting its reading in her nation and has strengthened exchanges with numerous French authors.
More than a dozen of his works, such as “The Song of Eternal Sorrow”, have been translated and published in France.
«Literary creation requires both talent and practice. “Writing novels is truly a craft, and my main quality is diligence,” Wang said. “I hope the garden of literature and art remains lush and blooms in every season.”
The Legion of Honor, established in 1802, is France’s highest distinction of honor. It is awarded to individuals, both military and civilian, who have made significant contributions to the country and its ideals.

Wang Anyi is a prominent Chinese writer born on March 6, 1954 in Nanjing, China. She is known for her extensive and varied literary work spanning novels, short stories and essays. Coming from a literary family, her mother, Ru Zhijuan, was also a well-known writer, which significantly influenced her literary career.
She began writing in the 1970s and has been acclaimed both in her country and internationally. Her works often explore themes of urban life and the human condition, focusing on women’s experiences and social changes in China. Her narrative style combines deep psychological introspection with keen observation of social reality.
Among her best-known works is “The Song of Eternal Sorrow” (“Changhen Ge”), a novel published in 1995 that narrates the life of a woman in Shanghai from the 1940s to the 1980s. This novel earned her the Prize of Mao Dun Literature, one of the most prestigious in China. The novel has been translated into several languages and adapted into films and plays, increasing its international recognition.
