MADRID 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of China, Xi Jinping, called this Wednesday from Brazil, where he met with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for a ceasefire and “the end of the war as soon as possible” in the Gaza Strip , where continuous Israeli bombings have left nearly 44,000 dead for more than a year.
“We are deeply concerned by the continued spread of the conflict in Gaza and call for a ceasefire and end to the war as soon as possible, the implementation of the two-state solution and tireless efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue,” he declared during a joint press conference after their bilateral meeting.
Xi, who has agreed with Lula on a “six-point consensus” on the political solution to the conflict in Ukraine, has emphasized that “the world today is not peaceful and that there are still many areas devastated by war.” “We need to gather more voices committed to peace and pave the way for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” he said, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
In October 2023, the Israeli Army began a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip following the Hamas attacks, which left 1,200 dead and about 250 hostages. Since then, Gazan authorities have recorded the deaths of nearly 44,000 Palestinians, in addition to more than 785 Palestinians killed at the hands of Israeli security forces and in attacks by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
