MADRID Dec. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Chinese Coast Guard (GCC) has urged this Friday to stop what they consider transgressions and provocations after the intrusion of a Philippine aircraft into the airspace over the Chinese territory of Huangyan Dao on Thursday.
“Huangyan Dao has always been part of China’s territory. The Philippines’ moves seriously violate China’s sovereignty and could easily lead to unexpected incidents at sea or in the air,” GCC spokesperson Liu Dejun said, according to The Xinhua agency has collected.
According to Liu, the Philippine C-208 aircraft has entered the airspace over Huangyan Dao without authorization. The Chinese Coast Guard has responded by issuing a warning and diverting the aircraft.
The spokesperson added that the GCC will continue to strengthen law enforcement to protect rights in waters under Chinese jurisdiction and maintain the country’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
The event takes place amid rising tensions between the Philippines and China over their territorial claims in the area. China claims most of the waters in the area, considering that they are part of its territory as they appear within the so-called ‘nine-dot line’ that appears on the maps of the Asian giant, drawn by the Chinese Government and which it claims as theirs the South China Sea.
Likewise, relations between China and the Philippines have increased tensions due to clashes between their coast guards in disputed territorial waters.
