Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor. During it, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Qin highlighted the fruitful results of practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields in recent years. He referred to the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, in November last year during the G20 summit in Bali.
On that occasion, both parties reached important consensuses to continue promoting the development of bilateral ties.
Qin stressed that China has always considered and developed its relationship with South Africa from a strategic perspective. He expressed China’s firm support for South Africa in exploring a path of modernization in line with its national conditions, developing its economy and improving its people’s livelihood.
China and Argentina promote BRI in South America
The Chinese minister expressed his country’s willingness to turn high-level political mutual trust into concrete actions, with the aim of pushing forward the continuous development of the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership.
In its capacity as the BRICS president for the year 2023, South Africa has put in great effort and made productive progress in intra-group cooperation, which China highly values, Qin noted.
China is willing to continue to cooperate fully with the current BRICS presidency, support South Africa in hosting the 15th BRICS Summit successfully, and work together to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among the BRICS countries, as well as jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries.
For its part, Pandor said South Africa attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. He said his country is willing to join hands with China to deepen practical cooperation in various fields and bring the comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Pandor also expressed South Africa’s readiness to strengthen coordination with China within the framework of BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms.
