The Chinese authorities have claimed to have achieved a “decisive victory” in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and have defended that the measures applied in recent months have allowed “a smooth transition in a relatively short period of time”, after the reports of a sharp uptick in cases and deaths after the partial relaxation of tough restrictions in the Asian giant.
The Standing Committee of the Political Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has indicated in a statement that the country “has gone through an extraordinary journey in its work of prevention and control of COVID-19” and has stressed that the authorities “have always put the population and their lives above everything else.”
Thus, he stated that the Central Committee of the PCCh, with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, “at the center”, has managed to “optimize prevention and control measures in light of the evolution of situations”, which allowed “coordinating efficient response with economic and social development”, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua.
The agency has emphasized that more than 200 million people have received medical attention after contracting the coronavirus, while 800,000 patients who were in serious condition received “adequate treatment”, which meant that “the mortality rate from COVID-19 in China is the lowest in the world.” “China has created a miracle in human history, in which a highly populated nation has successfully overcome a pandemic,” she praised.
For this reason, he has reiterated that “practice has shown” that the CCP Central Committee “was correct” in its assessment of the pandemic, while stressing that “the measures have been robust, have had the approval of people and have had a great result”. However, he has acknowledged that “although the epidemic situation has improved in China, the virus continues to spread globally and continues to mutate.”
In this way, he has advocated “optimizing the mechanisms and measures” and “strengthening the health system” to “consolidate the hard-won achievements”, while saying that “scientific planning of the next phase” must be carried out of vaccination against COVID-19 based on the mutation of the new coronavirus and the efficacy of the protection offered by the vaccines”.
“Efforts must be made to preserve these important results in the fight against COVID-19, better tell China’s stories in this fight, and encourage the entire party and the Chinese people, from all ethnic groups, to solidify their confidence in its success”, the organization has riveted, according to a statement published after their meeting to analyze the situation of the pandemic.
China experienced a sharp rise in coronavirus infections in December after easing restrictions that led to the release of videos and still images of overcrowded hospitals and crematoriums overwhelmed by the number of deaths. By contrast, Beijing has officially confirmed more than 83,000 deaths in the last three months, which has led to accusations of a cover-up of the true impact of the pandemic in the country.
