Chinese diplomacy announced on Thursday a series of sanctions against the chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Michael McCaul, who recently visited Taiwan.
As detailed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry in a statement, McCaul has made speeches and decisions aimed at “interfering in internal affairs and damaging China’s interests.”
“He recently led a delegation to visit the Chinese region of Taiwan, seriously violating the principle of ‘one China,'” Chinese diplomacy has highlighted, warning that McCaul’s positions “seriously damage Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity.” .
Thus, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that McCaul’s movable and immovable assets in Chinese territory will be frozen, he will be prohibited from carrying out “relevant” economic transactions and will not be able to receive visas or enter the country.
McCaul is taking part in a tour of Taiwan, South Korea and Japan that began after the meeting in California between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, also a Republican, and President Tsai Ing Wen in Taiwan, which has been the subject of protests by from Peking.
