Madrid 13 (Europa Press) –
The Chinese authorities have accused this Thursday of the New Zealand government to disseminate “false information” about the alleged “threat” that is the “growing Chinese influence” in the Pacific region, an issue that Beijing has strongly denied.
The Chinese embassy in New Zealand territory has thus accused in a statement to the country’s chief intelligence, Andrew Hapton, of “lying” about these issues by alerting this Chinese presence in the area. “Who has a hammer, everything seems a nail,” said the diplomatic legation, which has thus referred to the “cognitive bias” of the New Zealand government when addressing the matter.
“These accusations lack any basis and have been purely designed to spread misinformation. Therefore, we urge the authorities to stop seeing China through a mentality of the cold war. It is important not to abuse the concept of security or politicize it in these matters,” he clarified, according to the document.
In this sense, it has pointed out that China “is committed to the policy of respect to develop its relations”, which includes the islands located in the Pacific. “We respect the sovereignty and independence of these territories, their traditions and their aspirations,” he added.
“There is no such thing as a hidden agenda. All documents are in the public domain and we are focusing only on issues of economic cooperation with the aim of achieving sustainable development in relation to the Cook Islands,” he said.
That is why he stressed that the exchanges between these islands and the Chinese government “do not seek to exclude anywhere.” “This also does not imply that others should get in the middle. China seeks to explore the possibilities of association in the area through respect, equally,” he has settled.
