( Spanish) – The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service of Chile (Senapred) declared a red alert in five communes of the country, due to the forest fires that broke out this Tuesday.
The largest fire, 300 hectares, affects the communes of Quilpué and Villa Alemana, according to information on the Senapred website. Firefighters from several locations are deployed to try to contain the fire. At the moment there are no reports of affected people.
In the commune of Hijuelas, the fire affects five hectares, in Viña del Mar there is another that damages two hectares and in Freirina there is one more that affects one hectare.
Senapred explained that with the declaration of red alert, more resources will be mobilized to try to contain the fires.
In February, strong fires in central and southern Chile consumed thousands of hectares, caused the death of more than 130 people and caused the Government of President Gabriel Boric to activate a plan to rebuild the affected areas.
