Children found in the jungle in Colombia have nutritional deficit but evolve favorably

The four children found in the Colombian jungle After surviving the accident of the plane in which they were traveling, they have a nutritional deficit but are evolving favorably, the Bogotá military hospital where they are hospitalized reported on Thursday.

According to a hospital statement released Thursday, “the procedures established by the interdisciplinary team have allowed the stabilization and improvement of the biochemical profiles” of the children.

However, the medical center added, “from the infectious point of view they are still considered at high risk due to their nutritional deficiency” and “management of infectious pathologies inherent to the adverse conditions they were faced with is maintained, with the in order to achieve their optimal state of health.

The four minors were missing since the beginning of May in the Yarí jungle, between the departments of Caquetá and Guaviare, in southeastern Colombia, and were found by a group of soldiers and indigenous people last Friday.

The children’s journey began after the plane in which they were traveling with their mother, Magdalena Mucutuy, crashed in the jungle on May 1. The parent of the minors, the pilot of the aircraft and another passenger died in the accident.

From that moment on, the children began to wander in the thick of the Colombian jungle and it is still not entirely clear how they managed to survive for 40 days, especially considering that there was a baby among them.

The Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, in charge of the protection of children in Colombia, is developing a process to determine which of their relatives should have custody of the minors after the father of the two youngest children, Manuel Ranoque, was accused of alleged mistreatment of their mother and the little ones themselves.

The four minors found in the jungle are Lesly Mucutuy, 13 years old; Soleiny Mucutuy, 9 years old; Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy, 4 years old, and Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutuy, the baby who turned one year old while in the jungle.
