Chechnya says Russia has attacked kyiv in retaliation for drone strike on Chechen university

MADRID 30 Oct. () –

The leader of the Russian republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadirov, announced this Wednesday that the Russian Army has launched an attack against a building of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the capital, kyiv, in retaliation for a drone attack registered the day before at a Chechen military university.

Kadirov has detailed that the Russian attack occurred around 4:00 a.m. (local time) in retaliation for the launch the day before of a Ukrainian drone that caused a fire in an empty building of the Russian Special Forces University, located in the city of Gudermes.

“The drone that flew to Gudermés on Tuesday was controlled from this building,” he said in a message published on his Telegram profile, adding that Russian services have intercepted communications from kyiv that put the death toll from this attack at nine.

The center, a private university for training Russian special forces, was visited in August by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kadyrov after he announced in February that the facilities would be named after the president of Russia, an ally. politician of the Chechen leader.

The center hosts different military formations, including special tactics, artillery, aviation, or training for journalists who want to be embedded with the Russian Army. Since the beginning of the invasion, more than 19,000 volunteers, among others, have passed through to receive training.
