MADRID 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
In recent hours, the Chadian Army has carried out several bombings against alleged Boko Haram targets in the Lake Chad area, as part of the operation launched after the death of at least 40 soldiers in an attack recently carried out against a military base in the area.
The Chadian Presidency has stressed through a statement published on its account on the social network Facebook that “the fighter planes of the Air Force do not give any respite to the enlightened Boko Haram”, before adding that the suspects “are fleeing from one point to another, in an every man for himself.
During the day on Sunday, the Presidency of Chad stated that N’Djamena was considering the possibility of withdrawing from the Multinational Joint Intervention Force (MNJTF), before adding that the transitional president, Mahamat Idriss Déby, had ordered to reorganize the security forces by reinforcing the means of Intelligence, logistics, mobility and communication “to initiate an adequate response.”
The Chadian Foreign Minister, Abderaman Koulamallah, last week called on the international community to “intensify” its support for the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region and the Lake Chad basin and maintained that “collective and determined action is essential to eradicate this evil, which threatens the stability and development of the entire region.
The area has been the scene of attacks in the past by the terrorist group Boko Haram and its splinter group, Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA), which operate in the Lake Chad area, located on the border between Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. The authorities of these countries generally use the term Boko Haram to refer to both factions.
