June 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Chadian authorities released last Friday the eleven soldiers detained for a coup attempt in December, including the president of the Chadian Human Rights Organization, Baradine Berdei Targuio.
The military, who had been sentenced to 20 years in prison, have received a pardon from the country’s transitional president, Mahamat Idriss Déby, according to the Alwihda portal.
Last March, Déby granted another pardon to more than 260 people who had been sentenced in December for their participation in the anti-government demonstrations registered in October in the African country.
Chad is currently under the control of a military junta led by Déby, whose figure has been the subject of protests after he decided to extend his mandate – granted by the Army in 2021 after the death of his father, Idriss Déby Itno, who led the front of the country since 1990– another two years before the holding of elections.
