Regional and local transport will continue with discounts of at least 40%, co-financed in equal parts

The Government has once again extended the discounts that have been applied to public transport since 2022, but only until June 2025, the date from which a single Cercanías subscription of 20 euros will be created for all of Spain, at the same time as will continue to discount regional transport by at least 40%.
This was approved this Monday by the Council of Ministers through a Royal Decree-Law proposed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which includes both the extension of the current discounts for six months and the new bonus scheme starting in July. .
In this way, from January to June, free Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia trains, and state buses will continue, as well as minimum 50% discounts on urban and metropolitan transport (the State finances 30% and the communities and town councils the rest).
In addition, Cercanías buses in Cantabria and Asturias and public land transport in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands will be free all year round, and Avant buses will also retain the 50% discount until December 2025.
The high-performance services between Murcia and Alicante, and the Avant services between Ourense and A Coruña will continue to be free until June 30, 2025, as will the Madrid-Salamanca point-to-point relations, using the Media Distancia subscription. These free vouchers will also be valid on the Avant Express from Barcelona to Tortosa, excluding the origin/destination Barcelona-Tarragona.
Starting January 1, a discount system of at least 50% will also be activated to promote the use of shared bicycles (the State will finance 30% and the town councils the other 20%).
FROM JULY
For their part, the current discounts will decline in June and from July a new system will come into force, including free public transport for children under 15 years of age.
Regarding the new 20 euro pass for Cercanías throughout Spain, young people between 15 and 26 years old, both included, will pay only 10 euros, and those under 15 years old, nothing.
Conventional medium distance passes will have discounts of 40% and will be free for children. For young people between 15 and 26 years old, the discount rises to 50%. State-owned bus services will have discounts of between 40% and 70% depending on age and the type of pass purchased.
Regarding urban and metropolitan transport owned by regional and local authorities (such as the passes used in Madrid), the Ministry will finance its free use for children under 15 years of age and a 50% discount for youth passes. For the rest of the tickets, except tourist, single and round-trip tickets, a discount of at least 40% is promoted, which must be co-financed at 20%.
