CC.OO. vindicates the role of the inspectors in the trains after the Bejís fire

Aug. 23 () –

CC.OO. has claimed the importance of the presence on board of all the trains of the intervention personnel en route to provide a quality service to users and collaborate so that, when emergency situations arise, they are resolved without major consequences.

The union has transmitted this message after a Media Distancia train was surrounded by fire in Bejís (Castellón) last Tuesday, August 16, and a group of travelers decided to get off the train on their own, ignoring the instructions of the driver from the train, and receiving severe burns.

“At this point, it makes no sense to deny that the presence of another person from the company could have completed the work carried out by the driver: collaborating with her, reassuring, accompanying and guiding the people who were immersed in such an extreme situation”, defend the union.

This figure would be the train sales staff, colloquially known as controller, whose functions are usually the control or issuance of tickets or attend to the queries and needs of people who use trains as a means of transport.

In fact, the Renfe train action, evacuation and rescue plans themselves state that the functions of this staff are to “attend to the instructions of the driving staff, in everything related to the emergency, and transfer them to the auxiliary and auxiliary staff cabin if necessary”.

These plans also indicate that, in cases of emergency, the staff of the commercial group “must comply with the instructions received from the driving staff in relation to informing passengers about the event that has occurred, trying to reassure them or insist that they remain inside of the train, warning of the risk of being overwhelmed, in the event of leaving the train on your own initiative”, as occurred in this case.
