“In addition to regularly releasing new games each year, Capcom focuses on reviving intellectual properties (IP) that have not had a new release in recent times,” says the Japanese publisher in a press release. “The company is working to further enhance its corporate value by leveraging its rich content library, including reviving past IPs such as the two previously announced titles [Okami y Onimusha]in order to produce titles efficiently and of high quality”.
This desire to revive forgotten intellectual properties seems to be a plan that has been in the works for some time. It is true that the development of the Okami sequel has just begun and will take years to come out, but Onimusha Way of the Sword is closer and is expected in 2026. On the other hand, a few months ago Capcom released a worldwide survey where, among other questions, he asked the players if they would like the company to release a sequel or a new installment of one of their sagas. The intellectual property with the most mentions was Dino Crisis (80,769) followed by Mega Man (63,395) and Devil May Cry (60,371).
Okami and Onimusha also appear on the list, which we can now eliminate, and in tenth position we have Breath of Fire, which judging by the results of other questions is a saga that the most veteran players want to recover. The younger ones lean toward Devil May Cry. Resident Evil is not missing either, but this is not a saga that we can consider forgotten. Regarding Dino Crisis, it is curious to see that it is very popular all over the world and leads the request for a sequel or new installment, but in Japan it does not even appear in the top ten positions. There they prefer Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney).
Capcom has a lot to choose from if it wants to revive intellectual properties and if it were for the public it’s time to dust off Dino Crisis. This saga is the work of Shinji Mikami, who after leaving Tango Gameworks in 2023 founded Kamuy and is working on a project not yet announced. Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames to open his own studio and is now developing the Okami sequel for Capcom.
