Canada sanctions the Revolutionary Guard and prevents its members from entering the country

Oct. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has declared the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a “terrorist organization”, although he has left it off the list of individuals, groups and entities involved in acts of this type, choosing to sanction their members so that they cannot enter the country.

“We are using the most powerful tools at our disposal to crack down on this brutal regime,” Trudeau said at a press conference, assuring that more than 50 percent of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards will be affected by the move. .

Canada has not included the Iranian body on its list of terrorist organizations, although the Quds Force is on it, but rather has included it under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) to prevent its members from entering the the country, according to the CBC network.

“We have analyzed very, very carefully all the potential tools and we are not going to take any other off the table,” said the Canadian prime minister before the possibility of including it on the list of terrorist organizations.

Canada announced sanctions Monday against 25 Iranian individuals, including Islamic Revolutionary Guards Major General Mohamed Hussein Bagheri and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Hussein Salami.

Ottawa also directly pointed to a total of nine entities, among which the Morale Police or the Cyber Defense Command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stand out. With this decision, which “demonstrates Canada’s continued determination to defend the international order,” Ottawa prohibited those sanctioned from carrying out economic and financial transactions in the country.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is the elite military and ideological body of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was created after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It controls important sectors of the Iranian economy and has a significant influence on the political system of the Asian country.

In addition, it has the Quds Force, a section dedicated to defending and promoting Iran’s strategic interests abroad with support for forces such as the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah or the Syrian Army in its fight against the insurgency.
