Canada on Monday imposed new sanctions against four Iranian individuals and two entities, including the Iranian Disciplinary Force, for participating in the “lethal repression” against protesters, and Al Mustafa International University, for spreading the “ideology of the regime through its subsidiaries abroad”.
As specified by Ottawa, the Disciplinary Force also arbitrarily detains unarmed Iranian protesters, while the aforementioned university “regularly” recruits students in the foreign legions of the Quds Forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Canadian Foreign Ministry has also added Hosein Rahimi, commander of the Tehran Police, already sanctioned by other Western countries, to its ‘black list’, as well as Asadolá Jafari, head of the judicial administration in the province of North Khorasan, and Seyed Morteza Musavi, deputy head of the judicial administration in Mazandaran province.
“The Iranian regime’s brutal crackdown on protesters, and women in particular, continues to violate the human rights of the Iranian people. Their actions have killed and injured many Iranians, including children, who have been targeted in supposedly safe spaces. like schools,” said the Canadian side.
Likewise, Ottawa has assured that it will not stand “idly by” in the face of violence in the country, while it has also echoed Iran’s “active support for Russian atrocities in Ukraine through the sale of weapons and the supply of personnel Iranian military to train and help the Russian Army.
In this regard, the Foreign Minister, Mélanie Joly, stressed that the Iranian people “have endured for too long a regime that has repressed and violated their humanity. “They demand that their human rights be respected, and it is our duty to echo and amplify their voices,” he concluded.
