CAMM can reach the next generation of laptops

Some time ago we talked about CAMM, a new RAM format for laptops designed by Dell that would come to dethrone the SO-DIMM formata format that has been with us for more than a decade and has been the only alternative to soldered memory in laptops.

However, back then we only knew that these would be much thinner modules than SO-DIMMsoccupying up to 57% less height inside the laptop chassis, in addition to having higher speeds and capacities of up to 128GB per module.

Now, as we read in Liliputing, it seems that the next generation of laptops could be the first to hit the market with these modulesas JEDEC has approved version 0.5 of this RAM memory specification, while version 1.0 could be approved before the end of this year.

However, while we might see next-generation laptops feature these modules, there are still years left for a full transitionIn addition to having to wait for both laptop manufacturers to design CAMM-compliant motherboards, as well as RAM memory manufacturers launching memory modules compatible with this new format.
