Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday night in Bali, Indonesia, on the eve of the G20 Summit, after hosting world leaders this weekend. during an ASEAN meeting in his country.
“I’m not sure how this virus got to me,” Sen explained after announcing through his profile on the social network Facebook that he had contracted the disease.
The Cambodian political leader has indicated that as a precaution he has not attended a dinner with other leaders tonight. In addition, he will not be able to meet with the French and Chinese presidents, Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping, respectively, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Singapore.
“For the safety of the delegates who attended the meeting, I decided to let the Cambodian delegates leave (the country). They all return to Cambodia,” he wrote.
In addition, he explained that tonight he would return to Phnom Penh on a flight. “I will resume normal hours except for receiving guests,” the prime minister has assured.
For his part, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, has tested negative for coronavirus this Tuesday, while it is not considered a close contact, the White House has reported.
Hun Sen met for a long period with Biden on Saturday in Cambodia, first in a bilateral session and then as co-host of a US-ASEAN meeting. Afterwards, the two leaders sat next to each other during a gala dinner, Bloomberg reports.
