It’s been a long time since the scandal of the physical versions of video games that were nothing more than cardboard discs with the activation code of the game in questionbut now, as we read in Windows Center, it seems that in the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 we find a physical disc that, after being inserted, it requires a 150GB download, making it a kind of covert digital edition.
This is because the drive itself contains no less than 70MB of data, something that simply makes it a DRM key, similar to simply automating the entry of a game’s validation code onto a cardboard disk, or what happens in physical Switch games where there is not even a cartridge inside.
Apparently double layer BlueRay discs are being used to store this 70MB of data, something users don’t understand, since these disks are capable of storing up to 100GB of data.
If Activision had done the logical thing and used these discs to their full potential, it would have allowed for a base version of the game, perhaps compressed, to which future patches could be downloaded and installed, as well as allowing the preservation of the games themselves.
