Cabin pressure problem on Delta flight causes ear and nose bleeding in passengers

() – Some Delta Air Lines passengers are recovering after a pressurization problem on a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon, caused nosebleeds and other problems, according to statements from the airline and passengers.

“We sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience on Flight 1203 on Sept. 15,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement. “The flight crew followed procedures to return to Salt Lake City, where our ground teams assisted our customers with their immediate needs,” the airline said.

Passengers on Flight 1203 were rebooked onto another plane.

Delta technicians fixed the plane’s pressurization problem, the airline said, and it returned to service the next day.

Caryn Allen told KSLa affiliate, that it didn’t take long for passengers to realize something was wrong on the flight. “I looked over at my husband and he had both hands over his ears, kind of leaning forward,” Allen said.

“I looked down the aisle one row behind me and there was a gentleman who clearly had a very bad nosebleed and people were trying to help him,” Allen told the outlet.

Her traveling companion, Jaci Purser, said it felt like someone was stabbing her in the ear. “I grabbed my ear, pulled my hand away and there was blood on it,” Purser said.

No serious injuries were reported, but medical personnel identified 10 people who needed evaluation or treatment after the flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the incident.
