Burma’s National League for Democracy estimates 93 party members killed at the hands of the military junta

The National League for Democracy (NLD), the party of the former ‘de facto leader’ Aung San Suu Kyi, has reported on Wednesday that its figures suggest that at least 93 members of the formation have died at the hands of the junta. military that governs the country since the coup d’état of February 2021.

The party has indicated in a statement that some 1,200 people linked to the formation are still detained, although the number of deaths after the coup d’état amounts to a total of 3,800, according to its figures.

Thus, it has specified that it is estimated that 93 of them were members of the NLD, among which were also two deputies. In addition, 77 of the party members in custody are deputies.

The military junta has seized the properties of 625 people, 333 of whom are members of the formation, including 171 deputies. “The regime has destroyed the formation’s offices throughout the country, including its headquarters in Rangoon, and has seized its assets at the national level,” the text says.

The formation has alerted, on the other hand, that there are already more than 70,000 homes destroyed by the country’s security forces. The Association of Assistance for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has placed the number of deaths at 3,659 people and more than 23,000 those arrested since the coup, of which more than 19,000 are still behind bars.
