Representatives of civil society, security forces and leaders of the main ethnic communities met this Saturday in Bobo-Dioulasso with community delegates from the Hauts-Bassins region with the aim of stopping attacks by armed groups operating in Burkina Faso.
The meeting took place on Saturday at the Maison de la Culture in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso and around the representatives of the society of the Hauts-Bassins region, in the southwest of the country, according to what he has learned R.F.I.
In this sense, the community leaders have held a conference with the objective of pushing the armed groups to dialogue and where they have also exposed the main security concerns suffered by the population, especially in order to avoid inter-community conflicts.
Burkina Faso is the victim of numerous attacks attributed to different armed groups that operate throughout the country. The country, ruled by a military junta since the January 2022 coup against then-president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, has experienced increased insecurity since 2015. The junta is now headed by Ibrahim Traoré, who starred in September a coup that was considered a “palace coup” against the hitherto leader, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba.
The continuous attacks in the country, carried out by both the Al Qaeda affiliate and the Islamic State affiliate in the region, have also contributed to an increase in inter-communal violence and have caused self-defense groups to flourish, to which the Burkinabe government has added to ‘volunteers’. The deterioration of security has caused a wave of internally displaced persons and refugees to other countries in the region.
