Buenos Aires Matsuri is celebrated for the first time: it will be at Mercat Villa Crespo

The first great Matsuri of the City arrives in Buenos Aires: A festival that celebrates Japanese culture with shows, gastronomy, an Asian fair, street food and traditions for the whole family, will be on January 18 and 19 in Mercat Villa Crespo. Free entry.

Next January 18 and 19, from 12 to 8 p.m., the Mercat Villa Crespo (Thames 747) will become the epicenter of Japanese culture with the Buenos Aires Matsuri celebration, a festival that invites everyone to connect with the best of Japanese traditions.

In Argentina, the Nikkei community, descendants of Japanese, has kept their traditions alive, organizing successful Matsuris in towns such as La Plata, Florencio Varela and other cities in the country.

These events attract thousands of people every year, consolidating themselves as a cultural and gastronomic meeting space. For the first time, this celebration reaches the heart of Buenos Aires, offering the city the opportunity to live the experience of a Matsuri in an urban environment.

  • Cultural and Cosplay Fair: More than 50 stands with Asian products, manga, anime and Japanese art. Additionally, there will be a special space for cosplay fans, celebrating their creativity and passion.

  • Street Food and Japanese Gastronomy: The best of the flavors of Japan offered by Mercat Villa Crespo with a variety of Japanese street food options: from onigiris, yakitori, sandos to takoyakis and okonomiyaki, through traditional sweets such as dango or taiyaki.

A Matsuri in Buenos Aires

Matsuri is a traditional Japanese festival that celebrates community, customs and cultural heritage through performances, gastronomy and participatory activities. In Japan, Matsuris are held at different times of the year and each one has a special meaning.

Now, this tradition comes to Buenos Aires to offer a space where the authentic and the contemporary merge, creating an unforgettable experience.

Summer Matsuri is a festival that celebrates the hottest season with energy and joy. In Japan, these celebrations often include traditional games, lantern lighting, outdoor dances and fireworks, representing the connection with nature and the enjoyment of summer nights.

In addition, it is common to see attendees wearing yukatas, the traditional light summer kimonos, which add an air of authenticity and color to the festival. Now, this tradition comes to Buenos Aires to offer a space where the authentic and the contemporary merge, creating an unforgettable experience.

This event is organized by Asato San and Mercat Villa Crespo, with the support of Buenos Aires Capital Gastronómica.
