Brussels announces humanitarian aid of 25 million euros for Ethiopia and Kenya

BRUSSELS, 2 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The European Commission announced this Tuesday an additional 25 million euros in humanitarian aid for groups affected by armed conflicts in Ethiopia and Kenya.

The funds, 22 million for Ethiopia and three for Kenya, will be used to support those who suffer the consequences of conflict, displacement, drought and health problems. The aid seeks to combat food insecurity and malnutrition among the most vulnerable and will provide access to primary health care, water, sanitation and hygiene services, as well as educational opportunities for children caught up in humanitarian crises.

The Crisis Management Commissioner, Janez Lenarcic, has assessed that the additional game mobilized by the EU has at its center the humanitarian needs in Ethiopia and Kenya and will continue to support humanitarian organizations in both countries.

“Our humanitarian experts on the ground are constantly monitoring the situation and we remain steadfast in our commitment to solidarity with those in need in the country,” he said. In total, the EU has allocated 82.5 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ethiopia so far this year and 15.5 million euros to Kenya.
