Brussels announces 331 million in humanitarian aid for the Horn of Africa region

BRUSSELS, March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Commission has announced this Tuesday 331 million euros in humanitarian aid for the region of the Horn of Africa to address the situation of food insecurity.

The funds will also be used to assist displaced people and refugees, to improve preparedness for natural disasters and to support education in emergency situations.

In total, South Sudan will benefit from 82 million euros. Sudan will receive 73 million, 72 million will go to Somalia, 60.5 million to Ethiopia, while Uganda will have 30 million, Kenya will receive 12.5 million and Djibouti another 500,000 euros.

Around eight million euros will be devoted to disaster preparedness. Other priorities in the region are the protection of the civilian population and the fight against gender violence, food security and nutrition, as well as the education of children caught up in emergency situations. Priority will also be given to the urgent needs of refugees and displaced persons.
