Puente does not see truth in Aldama’s accusations about Ábalos’ contracts: “What I have seen is an underlined BOE”
The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has questioned Víctor Aldama’s accusations about the alleged awarding of contracts during the times of José Luis Ábalos in exchange for bribes. “What I have been able to see is a BOE, an investment annex, underlined. The evidence has little value,” he said in statements to journalists upon his arrival in Brussels to participate in a meeting with his EU counterparts.
Puente has assured, however, that the contracts will be reviewed, but has acknowledged that it is “very difficult” to rig these types of awards in a process in which he recalled that “neither the minister nor any politician intervenes.” “These procedures involve many people,” he said: “I am surprised that it is said that the minister has the capacity to award a work.”
“I would have to see it to believe it and, even so, it would be difficult for me,” Puente responded to the question of whether he trusts that Ábalos did nothing to compromise the public coffers, as Aldama is denouncing.
