The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this morning the appointment of Isabel Perelló as the new president of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). Yesterday, Tuesday, and after four failed votes, the 20 members of the governing body of the judges agreed, with 16 votes in favor, to appoint the progressive judge to the post.

The decree, signed by King Felipe VI and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, states that in accordance with the Constitution and the law that regulates the Judiciary, Isabel Perelló is proposed as President of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary. “I hereby appoint Mrs. María Isabel Perelló Doménech as President of the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary,” reads the decree, signed in Madrid on September 3, 2024.
