The agreement between the PSC and ERC for the investiture of Salvador Illa shakes the stability of the Government. The pact between both formations contemplates a fiscal agreement for Catalonia and has aroused criticism, both from the opposition and from within the socialist party. This Wednesday, the president of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, stated that Spain was taking “a step towards the federalisation of the autonomous state”, something that “is very good news for the Spanish political system”. Meanwhile, the majority of experts warn that the pact puts at risk the capacity of the autonomous tax system to provide the same fundamental public services in all the autonomous communities. Sánchez tries to calm the internal mood and reproaches – as were those of the president of Castilla-La Mancha Emiliano García-Page yesterday – and asks Junts to make a “useful opposition”.
- On the other hand, conservative members have blocked the election of a progressive woman to preside over the Judiciary.
