Enrique Santiago (IU) recognizes Maduro’s victory in Venezuela and asks the opposition to accept the result

The substitute spokesperson for Sumar in the Congress of Deputies and leader of the United Left, Enrique Santiago, welcomed this Monday the victory of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in the elections of the Latin American country.

“The #GranPoloPatriotic won the presidential elections in Venezuela with 51.2%. Congratulations! A voting system previously accepted by the opposition, with 16 verification mechanisms, with 21 parties competing with 9 candidates. The opposition must accept the result,” he said in a message on X.

Although the National Electoral Council of Venezuela has announced a victory for Maduro with 51.2% of the votes, compared to the opposition candidate Edmundo González, with 44.2%, both the European Union and the Government of Spain have asked to wait until all the records are known and the data is verified, while the Venezuelan opposition has denounced “fraud” and “massive looting”.
