Brazil and Colombia sign seven agreements, two of them on migration and human trafficking

Colombia and Brazil signed seven “instruments of cooperation” on Wednesday, as part of the meeting between President Gustavo Petro and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the Casa de Nariño, in Bogotá.

The topics of these agreements are related to the fight against hunger, family farming, human trafficking, tourism, migration and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), the Colombian government detailed.

Four of them are memoranda of understanding. The first, for the prevention, investigation, prosecution of the crime of human trafficking, assistance and protection of its victims and transfer of knowledge, signed between the two foreign ministries.

The second is for the exchange of good practices in the promotion and defense of the rights of LGBTIQ+ people, migrants, older people, people with disabilities and people living on the street, signed between the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship of Brazil and the Ministry of Equality and Equity of Colombia.

The other two memoranda are related to “the exchange of good practices in terms of democratization of exercise and knowledge in the field of tourism”, and the development of family farming, which seeks to establish parameters of cooperation in areas of agricultural production that “promote development of family farming, in an equitable, inclusive and sustainable manner,” according to a statement from the Colombian presidency.

The remaining three agreements are related to cartographic issues, the fight against hunger, through the public purchase of food, as well as policies, regulations and technical standards in information and communications technologies.

Petro received Lula in the morning at the presidential house to, according to the Colombian presidency, discuss trade issues, human rights, the environment and climate action. At the end of the day, Lula will accompany his Colombian counterpart at the inauguration of the 36th version of the Bogotá International Book Fairwhere Brazil is the guest of honor.
