Bosphorus traffic reopens for shipping after ship runs aground

Turkish authorities have reported that traffic has been reopened on the Bosphorus, after it was temporarily suspended when a ship full of grain ran aground due to mechanical failure off the coastal city of Turkeli.

The tugboats of the General Directorate of Coastal Security towed the ship, called ‘Annita’, tonight, which presented navigation problems.

“While sailing, the 190-meter-long bulk carrier called ‘Annitta’ had a mechanical failure off the coast of Türkeli,” he said, adding that, after running aground, the vessel was towed under the coordination of the Service Center. of Istanbul Vessel Traffic, according to a statement collected by the state news agency Anatolia.

After the towing tasks, the boat has been anchored in a neighborhood of the Sariyer district in Istanbul.

The Istanbul coordination center carries out joint inspections of ships loaded with Ukrainian grain that cross the Black Sea to the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey. Thus, it is in charge of guaranteeing that the vessels do not carry weapons or combat material after entering and leaving the ports.
