The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will travel to Indonesia this Wednesday to participate in the annual summit held by the community bloc with the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian States (ASEAN).
On July 12 and 14, Borrell will hold a series of meetings at the ministerial level within the framework of the summit, which he will lead together with the Philippine Foreign Minister, Enrique Manalo.
“The ministers will address the implementation of measures adopted during the first summit between the EU and ASEAN held in December 2022 in Brussels,” Borrell said in a statement.
The parties are expected to address numerous issues related to regional and global security, although Borrell will also meet with “regional and international interlocutors” on the occasion.
The meeting held in 2022 in Brussels allowed the leaders of the Twenty-nine ASEAN countries to come together for the first time in a meeting that coincided with 45 years of relations between the two blocs and that follows the example of other summits held this year. with blocs like the African Union or the Balkan countries.
