Borrell warns that the Republika Srpska authorities "go against the EU perspective"

July 20 () –

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has warned that the recent measures by the authorities of the Republika Srpska, the Serb entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, “go against the perspective of the EU”.

Borrell, in a press conference, highlighted “the initiatives, laws and announcements” of the Parliament of the Republika Srpska, which invalidated the rulings of the Bosnian Constitutional Court, “isolate this entity from Europe even more”, despite the fact that the country Since December, it has the status of a candidate to join the European bloc.

“We must stop immediately the weakening of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These actions, if they continue, could have serious consequences”, declared the head of European diplomacy.

In this sense, he has urged “to put an end to provocative and divisive rhetoric and actions, which include questioning the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the country, and the glorification of convicted war criminals, because there is no place in Europe for those engaged in such activities”.

In addition, he has promised that these measures “will lead to firm action” by Brussels. “We have the capacity to react if the situation deteriorates. We have tools, but we will not use them unless it is strictly necessary,” she explained.

The National Assembly of Republika Srpska promulgated the invalidation of the sentences of the Bosnian Constitutional Court, understanding it as a court distorted by being able to convene sessions and make decisions without the presence of Serbian judges, criticizing that the national nature of the Constitutional Court was sullied by including three foreign judges: one German, one Albanian and one Swiss magistrate.

After that, the president of said entity, Milorad Dodik, announced at the beginning of July that he had filed a lawsuit against the international representative for the country, Christian Schmidt, for having invalidated the decision of the chamber by understanding it practically as an act of secession, according to the powers of his position, established in the peace agreements of 1995 in Dayton (USA).

Dodik does not recognize the figure of Schmidt on the grounds that it is not validated by the UN Security Council and has used this reason to file a complaint against the representative before the Banja Luka Prosecutor’s Office this Saturday.
