BRUSSELS, July 5 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, warned Iran on Tuesday that “the space is narrowing” to relaunch the nuclear agreement, insisting that Tehran must make decisions now.
In a telephone call with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, the head of European diplomacy has indicated that it is necessary to move forward and make decisions if the agreement is to be concluded so that the United States returns to the nuclear pact.
“This is still possible, but the political space to revive the nuclear agreement can be narrowed soon,” warned the Spanish politician in a message on social networks after contact with the Iranian minister.
This contact takes place after a rapprochement meeting between Iran and the United States in Qatar that was not very fruitful and in which the EU hoped that the foundations would be laid to launch the Vienna process, the official venue for the talks to get Washington back. to the pact and from Tehran to full compliance.
Iranian officials say they are willing to reach a deal, stressing that “the road to diplomacy is open,” though the talks are stalled after numerous rounds of talks in Vienna failed to make a breakthrough.
The United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 with then-President Donald Trump, and Iran has increasingly tightened restrictions on its nuclear program.
