The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has “warmly” welcomed the words of the Prime Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid, before the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“A negotiated two-state solution is the best way to ensure just and lasting peace, security and prosperity for both Israel and Palestine. I look forward to building on this important commitment at the upcoming EU-Israel Association Council,” Borrell said in a statement. release.
Likewise, it has once again reiterated the European Union’s commitment to “a just and comprehensive resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict” that includes “an independent, democratic, contiguous, sovereign and viable State of Palestine”, with Jerusalem “serving as the future capital of both states.
Lapid told the UN General Assembly on Thursday that he was in favor of a two-state solution as long as the future Palestinian state “is peaceful and does not become another terrorist base to threaten Israel’s well-being.”
“An agreement with the Palestinians, based on two states for two peoples, is the right thing for Israel’s security and economy,” he said, adding that they are ready to lift the restrictions on Gaza “tomorrow morning” if they let “to fire rockets and missiles at our children”.
