MADRID 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, called on the Government of Israel this Wednesday to take “quick measures” to guarantee the delivery of aid in the north of the Gaza Strip and prevent the Gazan population “starves to death.”
“The Israeli Government must take rapid measures to prevent the civilian population from dying of hunger and comply with its obligations under International Law,” Borrell said in a statement in which he once again emphasizes the release of hostages and a halt the fire in the Gaza Strip.
Thus, the highest representative of EU diplomacy has stressed that the community bloc is “seriously concerned” about the situation in northern Gaza, at the same time that he has pointed out that the 27 insist on “the urgency of access full, rapid, safe and unhindered humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Borrell has echoed the information from the World Health Organization (WHO), which says that “hundreds of civilians” have died in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of hostilities following the Hamas attacks on October 7. and the subsequent Israeli military campaign in the enclave.
According to the WHO, Israeli attacks have destroyed United Nations shelters and “severely damaged” health centers, with Al Awda hospital standing out above all. Likewise, Borrell has emphasized the constant evacuation orders in the northern area of the Palestinian enclave.
“The 400,000 residents remaining in northern Faza have been ordered to evacuate again. Many have nowhere to go after repeated displacements, cannot leave or fear that there is no longer any safe place left in Gaza,” lamented Borrell, who He also denounces the limited humanitarian aid that enters Gaza.
Finally, Borrell has endorsed the call of the United Nations peace envoy for the Middle East, Tor Wennesland, to “put an end to attacks against civilians” and to protect the displaced, while advocating for “applying the orders of the International Court of Justice”.
