BRUSSELS, April 14 () –

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has called this Tuesday an “extraordinary” meeting by videoconference with the foreign ministers of the bloc to address the attacks carried out with missiles and drones by Iran against Israeli territory.

“Following the Iranian attacks against Israel, I have called for Tuesday an extraordinary meeting by videoconference of EU foreign ministers,” he said in a brief message on his account on the social network X, where he stressed that the objective is ” “contribute to de-escalation and achieve security in the region.”

The Israeli Army has confirmed that Iran's direct attack – the one announced by Tehran as Operation 'True Promise' – has included the launch of 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles and 120 ballistic missiles, “99 percent” of the which have been intercepted by Israeli defensive systems.

For its part, Iran has defended that these attacks are part of a legitimate response and its right to “self-defense” after the aforementioned bombing against its Consulate in Damascus, blamed on Israel and which resulted in the death of seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
