The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, spoke this Sunday with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, about the “global consequences” of the war in Ukraine and the situation on the African continent.
Borrell and Guterres have met in New York in the framework of the next United Nations General Assembly, which will be held throughout this week in the American city.
“The central objective of the European Union is to defend the world order based on rules and multilateralism,” Borrell said on his Twitter profile.
For its part, the Secretary General of the United Nations agreed that at the meeting both leaders discussed “the war in Ukraine and its regional and global impacts,” as well as “events in Africa.”
Borrell has traveled to New York to participate in a series of bilateral meetings taking advantage of the 77th annual session of the UN General Assembly.
On Monday, he will participate in a meeting on Ukraine and the Americas in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dimitro Kuleba, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Búcaro, will also be present.
Throughout the week he will hold meetings with European and regional leaders and attend high-level meetings on behalf of the European Union.
