The elected vice president of Colombia, Francia Márquez, assured on Thursday that the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, offered his country as the venue for the peace talks with the ELN.
“We greet with great joy that today President Boric has expressed not only his willingness to accompany us in this task of achieving peace, but also offers his home, Chile, as the venue for peace talks between the Colombian State and the ELN” , expressed Márquez, in a meeting at the University of Chile, after meeting with Boric on Thursday at the Casa de la Moneda in Chile.
Márquez is planning a tour of Latin America, in which he has already visited Brazil, where he had a meeting with former leftist president and presidential candidate Luis Inácio Lula Da Silva.
For his part, Boric stated that he had “the honor of receiving the future vice president of Colombia, Francia Márquez, a great leader and environmental defender with whom I share the vision of the union of our peoples and Latin America. I look with great hope and joy at what is happening in Colombia”.
Márquez also thanked the Chilean president for “his fraternal welcome, as well as his willingness to work for Peace in Colombia. We value his willingness to work on a new drug policy, against the racism, climate change and in favor of gender justice”.
Márquez is expected to meet Argentine President Alberto Fernández on Friday and Bolivian Vice President David Choquehuanca on Sunday in La Paz.
The elected Colombian vice president will take office on August 7 jtogether with the incoming president Gustavo Petro.
