() – The Bolivian government on Sunday denounced an alleged attack by supporters of former President Evo Morales that left people injured in Ventilla, in the city of El Alto, while the former president denied any responsibility for the events and assured that the mobilization he is promoting throughout the country is peaceful.
Government Minister Eduardo del Castillo said on his X account that Morales supporters attacked those participating in a town hall meeting in Ventilla, which, according to the official, caused injuries to three people and left “several journalists intimidated.”
“Morales continues with his plan to fill Bolivia with blood and death. We will act as the Constitution mandates,” added Del Castillo.
Separately, in statements to the state-run Bolivia TV, Health Minister María Renée Castro gave a higher toll. According to the official, there were eight injured and among them were members of the medical staff who had gone to Ventilla.
Former President Evo Morales referred to what happened in a post on X, in which he said that the mobilization he leads for Bolivia “is developing in absolute peace” and accused “shock groups” of being responsible for the acts of violence this Sunday.
“As we have been denouncing, unfortunately, the shock groups organized by the National Government began their actions, promoting attacks on the residents of El Alto in La Ventilla. We reiterate our request for international support and that of the media to guarantee the free exercise of our rights. The government must stop using officials and paramilitary groups to incite violence,” he said.
has reached out to the Bolivian presidency for comment on Morales’ remarks and is awaiting a response.
The events in Ventilla occur in a context of public clashes between Morales and President Luis Arce, his party colleague in the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS). Morales, who wants to run for the presidency of the country again in 2025, recently launched a “March to save Bolivia” against the government of Arce, who defends the work of his administration.
