The traditional “Brilla” light festival illuminates Christmas in Bogotá with a show of more than 300 giant figures alluding to the country’s rich biodiversity and the four elements of nature: earth, water, fire and air.

Since its creation in 2019, the festival has always sought to captivate the inhabitants of the Colombian capital with a tour full of colors and magic, presenting themes related to the diversity of the Colombian Pacific and the diverse natural ecosystems of the nation.

These Christmas holidays, the Christmas light show, based in the Botanical Garden of the capital, seeks to raise awareness among its hundreds of visitors about climate change and the importance of living in harmony with nature.

“This new dynamic is very interesting because in the Botanical Garden we were used to seeing other things. “I really liked the tour, especially the dynamics of the water, because I love whales,” he told Voice of America Edwin Díaz, one of the attendees.

On a route of just over a kilometer, you can see figures more than 12 meters long that combine art, technology and sustainability to offer an experience that many attendees consider unique and memorable.

“The journey through the four elements has been very beautiful. I found the water and air seasons wonderful,” commented Laura Torres, who visited the place with a group of friends.

For her part, Paula Moros highlighted that “the show is very different from the typical Christmas lighting.” “We wanted to see lights and this was something different, so it’s perfect,” she added.

The warm lights and environment of the place make this festival an ideal environment for families, who can even walk with their pets while admiring figures such as eagles, whales, frogs, a phoenix and other mythological creatures.

“The lighting is very nice. All the figures around each element seemed very cool (good) to me. The incorporation of theatrical elements, such as the dolls handled by actors, contributes a lot to the entire narrative of the tour,” said Ana María López to the VOA about this light show that fills Christmas in Bogotá with color.

The “Brilla” light festival will be open until January 12, 2025. According to estimates from the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, it expects to receive more than 300,000 visitors, like Ana Romero, who came with her family to enjoy the “little lights.”

“It is very entertaining for children and also for adults. The whole family came because the season lends itself to enjoying this place and seeing little lights in December,” he concluded.
