The aerospace company Boeing announced that it is planning to cut about 2,000 jobs in its finance and human resources departments in 2023.
However, he said he expects to “significantly increase” the company’s overall workforce during the year.
“Our workforce grew by 15,000 (jobs) last year and we expect to hire another 10,000 employees this year, with a focus on engineering and manufacturing,” Boeing said in a statement.
The company, which recently relocated its headquarters to Arlington, Virginia, had a total workforce of 156,000 employees as of December 2022.
The Seattle Times reported that Boeing, which has been one of the largest private employees in Washington state, planned to delegate about a third of the eliminated positions to Tata Consulting Services in Bengaluru, India.
Mike Friedman, a communications director, told the Times that the other positions would be eliminated in the company’s planned reductions in finance and human resources services.
“Over time, some of our corporate functions have grown too large, and with that trend comes bureaucracy and disparate systems that are inefficient. We are simplifying,” Friedman explained.
According to the Times, about 1,500 of the company’s roughly 5,800 finance positions will disappear, along with 400 in human resources, about 15% of the department’s total staff.
