Bodies of 13 migrants found on Tunisian coast

September 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tunisian authorities reported on Wednesday that at least 13 bodies had been found on several beaches, allegedly those of sub-Saharan migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach the coasts of southern Europe.

The bodies have appeared on the beaches of Chebba and Salakta, on the east coast of Tunisia, a judicial spokesman told Mosaique FM. The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation, pending the analysis that can be carried out on the bodies.

More than 1,100 migrants have died so far this year in the waters of the central Mediterranean, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which estimates the real figure to be even higher. Since 2014, nearly 23,900 people have died on this migration route.
