Bluesky introduces new measures to combat toxicity and anticipates the arrival of videos

Aug. 30 (Portaltic/EP) –

Bluesky has teased the rollout of videos on its social network, a “major update” that will follow its recent introduction of measures to combat toxic behaviour.

The latest version of the Bluesky app (v1.90) addresses toxicity, i.e. behaviors such as bullying, with new product-level features and tools, as reported in its Official Blog.

One of them is the one that allows users to separate their posts from quotes. When someone shares a quote, the original post is displayed in a box below the text that the person has added, but with the update it will be possible to prevent it from being displayed.

This new feature is presented as an additional action option on the quote, meaning that in addition to hiding and reporting the publication, the user will be able to remove the quote, which will leave a message in the box indicating that it has been removed by the author.

The update also allows users to hide replies to a post, which can only be done by the thread’s author, and to set priority notifications, so they only receive updates from people they follow.

Additionally, Bluesky has modified the way posts are displayed on the timeline. Until now, the Next feed gave equal importance to all responses, meaning they were all visible, but now priority will be given to those from people the user follows, with the rest remaining hidden but accessible if you click on the ‘View full thread’ prompt.

Added to this is the fact that blocking a creator of a starter pack – a type of invitation to encourage more people to join the social network – or a curated list means that the user will not be able to access any of the lists they create.

Bluesky has also anticipated the arrival of two other features. On the one hand, Community Notes, a tool that allows users participating in this program to offer context in posts with erroneous data or misinformation. On the other hand, it will incorporate the videoswhich will arrive with their “next major update.”
