The Secretary of the US State Department, Antony Blinken, has reiterated to the Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, that “the United States supports Israel in the face of threats from Iran”, after Tehran has stated that they will take measures in retaliation for the bombing carried out. last week against the Iranian Consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, which resulted in the death of seven members of the Revolutionary Guard.
“Blinken has reiterated the United States' support for Israel's security and has made it clear that we will support them in the face of any threat from Iran and its allied militias,” reads a statement from the Secretary of State's spokesman, Matthew Miller.
The two, who held a phone call this Wednesday, discussed the “ongoing efforts to secure” the release of the hostages held by the Palestinian militias through an agreement for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
On the other hand, Blinken has welcomed Israel's recent announcements on “urgent measures” to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, as well as improvements in coordination with humanitarian organizations, reiterating that “incidents” such as the attack on workers of the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK), by chef José Andrés, “should never happen.”
In this sense, he has emphasized that Washington “expects Israel to quickly implement its commitments” on humanitarian aid and has emphasized that “such commitments must be maintained over time.”
During the day, Israel's Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, threatened, addressing the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to attack Iran in the event that Iranian forces attack the country. The latter stated shortly before that “the evil regime made a mistake for which it must be punished and will be punished.”
Khamenei's words come just a few days after General Yahya Rahim Safav, advisor to Iran's supreme leader, warned that “no Embassy” of Israel “is safe” following the attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus. Afterwards, Gallant stressed that Israel has “completed preparations for a response to any scenario that may have to be developed against Iran.”
