The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, said this Tuesday that he would be willing to work with Republicans in Congress to respond “appropriately” to the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to arrest, among others , to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“I think we have to consider the appropriate steps to take to address what is a profoundly wrong decision,” Blinken said during a session of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, in relation to the order issued the day before by the chief prosecutor. of the ICC, Karim Khan.

“The devil is in the details, so let’s see what we have and if we can go from there,” Blinken said about a Republican proposal to question the legitimacy of the ICC to interfere “in the affairs” of countries with a system “independent, legitimate and democratic” judicial system, reports.

Before, when he had barely begun to speak, he was interrupted shouting “war criminal” by an assistant, who reproached him for having his “hands stained with the blood of 40,000 Palestinians.”

In addition to Netanyahu, the day before, the ICC Prosecutor’s Office requested arrest warrants for war crimes for the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, and three senior Hamas officials: the leader of its political arm, Ismail Haniye, for the head in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar; and for the head of the military wing, Mohamed Diab al Masri.

In a recent interview for American television, Netanyahu has expressed confidence that no “serious country” or “responsible leader” will “take seriously” the request of the ICC chief prosecutor, whom he has accused of having turned the court in a “pariah” institution.

The bloody offensive of the Government of Israel due to the attacks of October 7, 2023 committed by Hamas that left 1,200 dead and another 240 kidnapped, has since left more than 35,600 Palestinians dead and 80,000 injured.
