The Secretary of the United States Department of State, Antony Blinken, called his Slovak counterpart, Juraj Blanar, this Thursday to convey his solidarity with Slovakia following the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Robert Fico.
“(Blinken) has expressed his solidarity with Slovakia and his wishes for a speedy recovery to the prime minister. He has underlined the enduring ties between the American and Slovak people: I condemn political violence in all its forms,” said his spokesman, Matthew Miller, it’s a statement.
The Slovak Prime Minister had to be rushed to hospital on Wednesday after being shot in the middle of the street. The president was leaving a government meeting in the town of Handlova when a man of about 71 years old approached him and shot up to four times, hitting the president.
The Government of Slovakia confirmed this Thursday that the shooter who shot Prime Minister Fico was a “lone wolf” and was not part of any group, although the authorities do not consider any other hypothesis for the crime other than political motivation.
