Blinken asks the president of Israel for a de-escalation of violence in the West Bank

Oct. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, on Tuesday conveyed his concern to the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, about the violence in the West Bank, for which he has called for the de-escalation of tensions in the region.

“We are urging everyone to take the necessary measures to try to reduce this escalation of violence and to avoid actions or demonstrations that could incite it,” Blinken said, according to the State Department.

Office spokesman Ned Price has indicated that the two representatives have discussed opportunities to expand and deepen Jerusalem’s relations with Arab states.

“He underscored US concern over the current escalation in Israeli and Palestinian tensions, violence and loss of life in the West Bank,” Price said.

Likewise, Blinken and Herzog have commented on “shared security concerns”, such as the war in Ukraine or the alleged participation of Iran in the war with the delivery of kamikaze drones to the Russian Army.

The Israeli president has assured that he has exposed evidence that Tehran is providing “weapons that are used against innocent civilians in Ukraine.”

Blinken also congratulated the Israeli president for the conclusion of the agreement with Lebanon, mediated by Washington, and which resolves the maritime border dispute between the two countries.

The meeting between the two politicians has meant reaffirming the “strength of the bilateral relationship”, which has “75 years of solidity”, Herzog has maintained. “The United States is an important actor in our region, and the cooperation between us supports the success of peace in the Middle East,” added the Israeli president through a series of messages published on his Twitter profile.

Subsequently, Herzog met with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and emphasized that the relationship between the two countries must remain above national politics, referring to the elections being held in both countries.

“My visit here during this politically sensitive time, both in Israel and in the United States, is intended to underscore that our alliance is above all politics. It transcends all government and political disagreements,” the Israeli leader said.

Herzog, on his visit to the United States, will also meet with Biden this Wednesday at noon.
