Bitcoin seeks a space on the Mexican political agenda

“I met with some Mexican politicians and they were surprised by the uses that can be given to bitcoin,” said Samson Mow in an interview with Expansión.

During conversations with legislators such as PRI’s Indira Kempis, who is a cryptocurrency enthusiast, Mow spoke of other uses that Mexico can make as stores of value in bitcoins.

“The country has the capacity to do it,” he said. The objective is to clear the doubts of the legislators so that later public policies can be built that incorporate or regulate the crypto market.

Mow even held conversations with one of the Mexican businessmen who has no qualms about expressing his appetite for bitcoin: Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of Grupo Salinas.

However, meetings with authorities such as Banxico or the Treasury were left off the agenda and he said that surely in future meetings he will seek an approach to discuss the possible benefits of adopting bitcoin.

As of April 28, a bitcoin was worth $29,390, up from the $16,688 it was worth on January 1 of this year, according to figures from Yahoo Finance.
